WebDec 25, 2024 · If I ever learn to weld, I want to do a Flat Spot lower w/ a 1" steel rifle length buffer tube, that should be a good 3 lbs - that takes nearly all standard parts. Green Mountain blanks come @ 1.2" in diameter, so you could go w/ a 27" w/ rifle+3" gas on a .936" gas block, and then from there 1.2" to the chamber. WebFitted a lower parts kit and drilled for all the detents except the safety detent (need a 5/32 6” cobalt bit to clear the SAA grip). Welded on a 1 1/8” OD tube for the buffer extension - currently M16A1 rifle length. Need to weld on a butt plate or figure out some wood furniture. Upper is from a 1980s M16 parts kit.

Home built Title 1 firearms don't require a serial #, unless you go to sell it down the road. The Flat Spot claims their flats are not firearms, though they have not sought a BATFE Tech Branch letter to that effect.
